Lady Lancers Off to 2-1 Start

A scoreless first quarter was the difference in the Cordova High School girls’ basketball team’s road game against the Capital Christian High School squad on Tuesday.

That quarter led to the Lady Lancers losing 47-34 to the Lady Cougars. In the second quarter, Cordova (1-1) outscored Capital Christian, 16-10, but the host Cougars led 23-16 at halftime.

The Lancers continued their pace in the third quarter, as they raced past the Cougars with a 12-11 run to cut the lead to 34-28. But CC held Cordova to six points in the fourth quarter to hang onto the win.

Leading scorers for Cordova was guard Leila Cooper with eight points. She was followed by Kelsie Graf with seven points, Jullisa Reis six, Erika Wilson five, Nikki Jones four, Aneka White three, and Julia Rosales one.

In their first official road game of the season on Dec. 1st, the Lady Lancers jumped out to a 16-12 lead in the first quarter. They led 25-20 at halftime and 30-25 after three quarters over the Lady Bulldogs.

Cooper led the way for the Lady Lancers with 15 points. Graf was next with nine points and Graf six. Wilson joined Jones and White with four points each and Reis two.

Yesterday, Thursday, Cordova continued its non-league schedule at River City. Next Tuesday, the Lancers play at River Valley of Yuba City. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
