RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - On Monday, the Cordova High School boys’ basketball team will open the three-day, 40th annual Cordova Christmas Classic inside the Lancer Gym.

The Lancers will open their own tourney against Encina at 7:30 p.m. The eight-team tourney tips-off at 3 p.m., followed by games at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The tourney concludes on Wednesday.

According to Cordova head coach Fletcher Johnson, the teams taking part are Cordova, Encina, Inderkum, Grant, Monterey Trail of Elk Grove, Burbank and Wood of Vacaville.

“A lot of good teams,” Johnson said. “[Many] evenly matched teams.”

According to Johnson, Cordova and Encina, along with Grant and Inderkum, are in the same bracket.

The most notable of the teams in the tournament are Burbank and Grant.

“[Burbank] is pretty loaded,” said Johnson of the Titans, who are ranked in the top 10 among Sacramento area boys basketball teams.

According to Johnson, Grant is returning to the tournament, as the Pacers have played in the Classic over the years past.

Earlier this month, Cordova hosted Wood in a non-league game in which the Lancers fell 50-43.

The Lancers concluded action at the St. Hope Elite Classic Tournament earlier this week.
