Major Injury Collision

Mar 23, 2016 12:00AM ● By Source Department of California Highway Patrol

On Tuesday, March 22nd, Sacramento Sheriff Deputies attempted to make a stop on a 2004 Chevy Silverado for vehicle code violations as it was traveling southbound on Bradshaw Road at Oates Drive. Rather than stopping the suspect vehicle attempted to accelerate away and tried to enter the freeway were it clipped the front of another vehicle. The vehicle then lost control striking a road sign and an overhead street light and proceeded to overturn multiple times.

From the time the Deputies put out the failure to yield to the time off the crash was approximately 300 yards. The other driver did not sustain injuries from the crash; however the driver and passenger of the fleeing Chevy became pinned in their now upside down getaway vehicle. Sacramento Metro fire crews were called out to extricate the suspects. Both driver and passenger were wanted felons, the driver being a Parole at large. The vehicle contained thousands of dollars in loose bills and pounds of methamphetamine and heroine.

Both the driver and passenger of the suspect vehicle were arrested at the scene and were transported to UC Davis medical center for treatment.

The ramp to US-50 westbound from southbound Bradshaw Road had been closed for approximately an hour and a half, as money, drugs, and the vehicle had to be recovered. The Sacramento Sheriff’s department is handling their portion of the case whereas East Sacramento CHP is handling the crash portion. No sheriff Deputies or private citizens sustained any injury from this incident.
