Bats Alive for Lady Lancers

Competing in the Nor-Cal Classic toward the end of last week, the Cordova High School softball team let its bats talks loudly.
The end result in four games was a 2-2 record and a fourth place finish in the Diamond Division of the tournament that featured 65 high school softball teams from the Sac-Joaquin Section. Teams from outside the section also competed at the tourney, two of which the Lancers faced.
Louisville 7, Cordova 6
In the third place game of Diamond Division on April 2nd, Cordova had 15 hits against the squad from Woodland Hills.
Kai’lee Cole lead the way for the Lancers, going 4-for-4 that accounted toward the team’s 15 hits. Samantha Lutman joined teammates Nikki Jones, Joycelyn Brown and Lelia Cooper with two hits each.
Going into the final inning, the Lancers led but Louisville scored three runs to win the game.
“That was a game,” said Cordova head coach Tracy Cole.
Selma 8, Cordova 3
The Lancers’ first of two games on April 2nd was against the Bears. Cordova was held to five hits.
Cordova 13, El Camino 6
The Lancers and Eagles faced each other for the second time in a week; El Camino posted an 8-7 win over Cordova in a non-league game in Sacramento on March 29th.
In their meeting in pool play of the tourney on April Fool’s Day, the Lady Lancers had 19 hits. Traci Mahony and Lutman had four hits each for Cordova; Mahoney had a double, single and 4 RBIs. Jones went 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs.
Cordova 6, Dougherty Valley 5
In its first game, also on April Fool’s Day, Cordova had 12 hits.
Leading the offensive way for the Lancers were Mason Pittaro, who went 3-for-4 that included a single, double and triple and 4 RBIs. Kai’lee Cole was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs.
“That first game was the best we’ve ever played,” said Tracy Cole.
Today, Friday, Cordova plays at Union Mine in an SVC road game in El Dorado. The Lancers continue conference play next Monday, another trek into El Dorado County but this time to Placerville to play El Dorado. Both games are scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
