Looking to get into the Sierra Valley Conference win column was something that the Cordova High School boys soccer team was looking to do on Tuesday.
But defending SVC and Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV champions Galt had other ideas.
Hosting the Warriors at Lancers Stadium, Cordova faced a talented Galt squad that posted a 5-0 win.
“We struggled to match up key areas (of the field),” said Cordova head coach Eric Mc Cahon, whose Lancers are now 0-1-1 in the SVC and 3-8-4 overall. “We played as well as we could, but ran into a very talented team. I feel Galt is the clear favorite to repeat as league champions and as section champions.”
Cordova 1, Rosemont 1
Taking on the Wolverines in the SVC opener at Rosemont on Jan. 12th, the Lancers’ only goal came in the second half by junior defender Oscar Natalio. Rosemont also scored its only goal of the game in the half.
“We were pretty evenly matched with Rosemont in key areas of the field, and the score was very representative of that,” Mc Cahon said. “Both team’s midfielders played a hard fought match and did a good job of both defending and creating scoring opportunities.”
Yesterday, Thursday, Cordova continued SVC action at Union Mine. Next Tuesday, the Lancers entertain El Dorado. Next Thursday, Cordova continues conference action at Liberty Ranch. Game time for all contests is scheduled for 6 p.m.
