Despite a tough loss, the Cordova High School girls basketball team still has momentum going into the second half of Sierra Valley Conference action.
On Wednesday, the Lancers opened the second round of conference play against Rosemont at Lancers Gym. But before that contest, Cordova (3-2 in the SVC, 6-16 overall) were bitten by the Union Mine Diamondbacks squad, losing 60-28 in an SVC contest on Jan. 27th in El Dorado.
The first quarter started with the D’backs jumping out to a 15-5 lead. Cordova scored more in the second quarter at seven points, but Union Mine continued to roll with 13 points for a 28-12 halftime lead.
Cordova was down 39-22 after three quarters. But Union Mine put the game out of reach in the final quarter with a 21-6 run for the win.
