Throughout the regular season, the Cordova High School girls soccer team dominated most of its opponents.

That continued in Sierra Valley Conference action for the Lady Lancers. That led to 5-3-2 record in conference play, and ended the regular season with an 11-8-3 mark for third place.

Taking third place in the SVC, Cordova advanced into the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs as the No. 16th seed. And that spot meant playing at fellow Folsom-Cordova Unified School District and No. 1 seed Vista del Lago at Livermore Park on Feb. 22nd.

The Lancers’ post-season came to a quick end, as the Eagles soared to a 7-0 win. Vista del Lago jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first half.

Cordova booters who were seniors on this year’s team were Adrienne Hammond, Lexi Samayoa, Kelsie Graf, McKenzie Emery, Hunter Roberts and Alyssa Moreno.

Projected to return next winter for the Lancers are five juniors. The roster was also sprinkled with underclassmen power that included four sophomores in Amella Alvarado, Shelby Konarshi, McKayla Tyson and Leonor Vega. Cordova also had two freshmen on its team with Annette Medina and Gabby Maduri.

This winter was the first time that Cordova, the SVC and the section played girls soccer. In 2014, the section’s board of managers voted in favor of moving girls soccer, which was played in the spring season, and boys soccer that was played in the fall season, to the winter season.
