RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - When the Cordova Lancers take to the court this Friday, November 22, inside their home gym against visiting El Dorado High in the preseason opener for both teams, the Lancers will be doing so with a very talented team featuring quite the dynamic trio.

Senior wing players Reimont Stallworth and Kenny Brown, along with senior point guard Isaiah Bolden figure to lead the Lancers in whichever direction they will go this season as the three lone seniors and returning high scorers from a season ago.

The 6-foot-2 Bolden, who averaged 15.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists a season ago as the floor general for Cordova, will be counted on once again as the Lancers' go-to guy on the court. Cordova head coach Fletcher Johnson hails the point guard as the leader of the team for a variety of reasons.

"He's good, there's no doubt about it," Johnson said. "He's got the most basketball experience. He's our guy. The team believes in his ability and they've seen him do some things as far as scoring. The kids follow him because they believe he's good enough to lead them."

In Brown, the 6-foot-2 football tailback turned basketball forward who averaged 11.2 points and 7.2 rebounds a season ago before being injured prior to the Lancers' appearance in the CIF Sac Joaquin Section playoffs, Cordova has a tough player who does not shy away from contact. In Stallworth, the team has a lengthy 6-foot-4 wing player who averaged 11.2 points and 7.9 rebounds a season ago and figures to take another step forward in his senior season.

Additionally, Johnson spoke highly of the additions of two junior guards in Raushaun Pinkney and Tavion Thomas-Dominguez, who should be able to lift some of the pressure off Bolden's shoulders in terms of handling the ball. Also, the presence of 6-foot-6 junior Alan Davis will provide the Lancers with some much needed size.

Despite their season-ending with a 62-51 defeat in their first round playoff matchup at Manteca last February, Johnson says the team is eager to forget about last season and focus on what lies ahead.

"The main thing we want to do is make sure we play hard every day," he said. "Work hard every day, have a real positive attitude, and win our league again. But the real goal is to win in the playoffs."
