RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The Holiday STAR (Student Talent Achievement Reward) program returned to Rancho Cordova for the third year in a row on Thursday, December 19!

The City of Rancho Cordova, RCPD and Rancho Cordova schools recognized 45 preschool and elementary school students in the city who, despite challenging financial circumstances, have worked hard to become high achievers both academically and behaviorally.

The program kicked off with breakfast for the Holiday “STARs,” their parents and school principals. Then, each student was recognized on stage and presented with a new backpack, clothes and shoes. Finally, each Holiday “STAR” was paired with an RCPD officer or city staff member and enjoyed a $100 holiday shopping spree at Rancho Cordova Walmart!

“The City of Rancho Cordova and RCPD are proud of our students and the hard work and effort they put into school,” said Sergeant Rich Merideth. “This program is a great way for us to come together during the holiday season to show our students how much we care about their success and future in Rancho Cordova.”

Through the Adopt-a-School program, RCPD’s Youth Services Unit regularly recognizes students at elementary schools in Rancho Cordova for living the values set by their schools. This holiday season, the City and RCPD aimed to make high achieving students’ wishes come true.

“We’re so thankful to have this event to recognize the hard work of our students who have overcome some pretty significant challenges,” said Principal Laura Butler of Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. “This event brings so much joy to local families during the holiday season.”

The City and RCPD worked with local community partners to surprise and reward these Holiday “STARs,” including Rancho Cordova Walmart, Famous Footwear, Bearpaw, McDonald’s, Serve Sacramento, Center of Praise, Golden State Water and Republic Services.
