RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Reports say that on Tuesday, December 31, an early morning police pursuit ended at the Rancho Cordova ARCO gas station near Sunrise Boulevard and Douglas Road. The suspect was Cedric Rhym, a 51-year-old, who tried to escape when police attempted to stop him in the Meadowview area for a minor traffic stop at 2:30 am.
The situation quickly escalated as the suspect led police on a 30 minute chase to the Rancho Cordova gas station, barricading himself in his automobile. Authorities had feared Rhym, who had a warrant out for his arrest, was armed. The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department was aided by a SWAT team for several hours as the automobile was tear gassed.
At around 6:47 am authorities confirmed that Rhym surrendered and was taken to Sacramento County Main Jail. Sacramento Police Public Information Officer Karl Chan said Rhym was booked for a felony pursuit and a previous active arrest warrant.
