RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - A postseason berth and second place finish in the Greater Sacramento League a year ago was a nice accomplishment. But for the Cordova Lady Lancers' varsity basketball team, the goal still remains.

Dethrone West Campus.

The Warriors, who have been a powerhouse within the Sac Joaquin Section for the past several seasons, took home the Greater Sacramento League title a season ago in the first year of the league's existence after Section realignment. West Campus compiled a 16-15 record a season ago, but that mark included a perfect 10-0 mark in league play, including two wins against Cordova.

Those losses to West Campus ultimately haunted Cordova, as the Lady Lancers finished last season with an 8-2 record in league play, along with their 19-8 overall, good for second place - behind West Campus.

Cordova entered this week with one final preseason game remaining, a game at Placer this past Wednesday evening, but will begin their league slate this Friday, January 10 when they play at Hiram Johnson. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. At the time of printing, the Lady Lancers have earned a 6-8 preseason record. League rival Natomas also has compiled the same mark to this point. West Campus however appears to be just as capable as ever, having started off their season with an impressive 8-2 stretch.

For Cordova, the success of their season will hinge on a trio of juniors in team leader Emika Love, as well as guards Corrie Harrison and Eva Graf. Additionally, senior forward Pele Toele is being counted on to provide a presence within the paint. Led by head coach Kim Little, the Lady Lancers figure to be in the mix for the league title down to the final week of the regular season.
