Girls Basketball
RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The Cordova Lady Lancers varsity basketball team wrapped up their regular season slate with two consecutive wins following a loss at West Campus on February 7, which ultimately resulted in the two schools each holding a share of a Greater Sacramento League Title this season.
Both West Campus and Cordova finished 9-1 in the GSL, with the two league rivals splitting their two regular season meetings this winter. Even so, being able to hang a league championship banner within the Cordova gym is a tremendous feat.
Led by head coach Kimberly Little and junior do-it-all guard/forward Emika Love, the Lady Lancers (17-10 overall) earned a No. 12 seed in the CIF Sac Joaquin Section Division II playoffs. That in turn secured a date with No. 5 seed Vista del Lago (18-9 overall) this past Tuesday, February 18.
Boys Basketball
The Cordova boys varsity basketball team entered the CIF Sac Joaquin Section Division II playoffs on a roll, winners of three straight games.
The Lancers (14-14 overall, 8-2 Greater Sacramento League) finished second in league behind Florin (23-5 overall, 9-1 GSL), earning themselves the No. 15 seed and a play-in-game this past Tuesday, February 18 against No. 18 seed Mira Loma (9-16 overall). Final score was 63-46.
Under head coach Fletcher Johnson, Cordova will look to advance past the first round following last year’s early exit. But as long as standout senior point guard Isaiah Bolden is on the floor, the Lancers will have a shot to beat anyone they face this postseason.
