RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The City of Rancho Cordova is proud to announce the appointment of Kate Adams as its new Rancho Cordova Chief of Police.
Adams, a Sheriff’s Captain with 25 years of experience with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, fills the role vacated by former Chief of Police Chris Pittman.
“The City of Rancho Cordova is excited to welcome Kate Adams as our new Chief of Police,” said City Manager Cyrus Abhar. “Many residents will remember Chief Adams who previously served as our Assistant Chief of Police from 2013 to 2017. Her commitment to public safety, passion for building relationships with residents, businesses and youth, and extensive background make her poised to serve our community.”
In addition to serving as Rancho Cordova’s Chief of Police, Adams will also serve as Commander of the Sheriff’s Office East Division out of the Kilgore Police Station.
Adams began her career in law enforcement with the Sheriff’s Office in 1994 after graduating from Union Institute and University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. She has served in a variety of roles, including Deputy Sheriff, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain. She has held a variety of leadership positions, including Commander of the Sheriff’s Impact Division, Hi-Tech Crimes Bureau Commander, and Rancho Cordova Assistant Chief of Police.
“I feel privileged to return to Rancho Cordova as the Chief of Police,” said Chief Adams. “I believe strongly in the collaboration of the community, city services and law enforcement. By coming together, we can continue to make positive strides and support the beautiful community of Rancho Cordova. I look forward to engaging with residents and businesses as we foster the wonderful relationships already in place and grow others.”
Through her law enforcement career, Adams has developed a strong background in community-oriented policing, intelligence-led policing, patrol operations, Internet Crimes Against Children, cybercrime and cyber intrusion.
Adams has 19 years of teaching experience through her roles as Lead Instructor for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Academy, Board Member and Law Enforcement Liaison for the Coalition of Law Enforcement and Retail Crime, and Adjunct Professor at William Jessup University. Continuing education is a priority for Adams who holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership, and is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and the Los Angeles Police Department Leadership Program (formerly West Point).
In addition, Adams has a passion for mentoring youth. During her time as Assistant Chief of Police, she often participated in school and youth events to build relationships with local children. She currently enjoys volunteering as a head coach for her youngest daughter’s softball team, and previously served as a Board Member for the Sacramento Chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters to facilitate adding law enforcement mentors to its programs.
