RCPD will have officers on patrol to identify alcohol and drug-impaired

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The Rancho Cordova Police Department (RCPD) encourages our community to be responsible and safe by not driving impaired on St. Patrick’s Day.

On Wednesday, March 17, RCPD will have officers on patrol to identify alcohol and drug-impaired drivers to keep our community safe.

Last year on St. Patrick’s Day in California, seven people were killed and 116 others were injured in crashes caused by driving under the influence.

YOU can make our community safer. Drive with care and slow down. Follow traffic laws, including speed laws and no texting laws.

If you plan to drink, don’t drive, period. In addition, DUI doesn’t just mean alcohol. Prescription drugs with warning labels about driving, and marijuana, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, can also impair driving and result in a DUI. If you see an impaired driver on the road, immediately call 911.

Not only does driving impaired put yourself and others on the road at risk, but it also hurts financially. Attorneys’ fees, fines, court costs, insurance rate hikes and car repairs can reach $15,000 or more in California.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
