RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The City of Rancho Cordova is proud to announce the winners of the 2021 Pride Scholarships, Margaux Sofia Bautista and Arista Chauhan, both graduating seniors from Cordova High School (CHS). The Pride Scholarship program is funded by employees of the City of Rancho Cordova and awards $500 to graduating seniors for demonstrating community pride.
Margaux has lived in Rancho Cordova for ten years. Over the years, she has become very active in the community at St. John Vianney Parish and has volunteered at various food drives and other service activities. At CHS, she has participated in mathlete competitions, journalism club and marching band.
“I’ve moved around a lot within my life, and even with that, I’ve never known a more comfortable place to live than Rancho Cordova. From the people you meet around town, to the different places, to my high school, I feel a great sense of pride for my community,” Margaux said.
Arista has grown up living in Rancho Cordova and learned about the city’s local government through Youth @ City Council and Summer @ City Hall, two programs led and organized by PRO Youth and Families, a local nonprofit. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, she and another student started a mental health initiative at CHS and founded Cordova’s Coping and Support Center, a school club that provides students with mental health resources and activities.
“It’s important to me that the club continues after I graduate because it’s imperative that youth learn to care for their mental health and understand they shouldn’t be ashamed to ask for help. I want to establish a support system at my school to ensure no one feels alone,” Arista said.
“Margaux and Arista are both two well-deserving students. We were particularly impressed with the passion and initiative they both showed for serving the Rancho Cordova community. On behalf of the City of Rancho Cordova, congratulations!” said Andrea Malins, Administrative Assistant.
