RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) – This past Sunday, August 2nd, was a perfectly sunny, clear-of-smoke day for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department to hold its Unity in the Community demonstration, barbecue, and bike giveaway day at Hagan Community Park.

Sheriff Scott Jones and the department took the summertime afternoon to visit Rancho Cordova and exhibit some of the tools used by law enforcement to keep Sacramento County communities safe.

The free to the public event was geared towards the entire family, providing demonstrations, static displays from Sheriff’s K9 Units, Air Operations, SWAT team and the Bomb Squad which included state-of-the-art remote controlled units and robotics.

The Sheriff’s Department holds these learning, technological exhibitions to inform, socialize and to possibly recruit community members, and young people who are considering a career in law enforcement.

Some 700 attendees enjoyed learning about the Youth Services Unit and having a delicious barbecue lunch. Also included were free frozen treats, face painting and bounce houses for the little ones.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, 25 bicycles, 100 bike helmets, 160 life jackets and some 700 snow cones were gifted to participating kids.

Sheriff Scott Jones’ Department expressed gratitude for the strong turnout this past Sunday on a social media outlet saying, “We all had a blast at our last Unity in the Community of the season! Thank you to our Sacramento County community for making this such a fun and eventful summer. We cannot wait for next year!”
