RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Chief of Police Kate Adams announced her retirement from a 27-year law enforcement career.

Adams joined the City of Rancho Cordova in 2013 as the Assistant Chief of Police. She has a passion for serving and mentoring the city’s youth and loved participating in school and youth events to build relationships with Rancho Cordova students.

Adams also supported Intelligence-led Policing, a strategy of consistently reviewing data to help focus resources, as well as identify and solve crimes. She was instrumental in creating RCPD’s Crime Suppression Unit, the first highly visible and proactive policing unit of its kind in the region that focuses on keeping crime out of our community.

Adams was assigned to a new role in the Sheriff’s Office in 2017, but soon returned as Rancho Cordova’s Chief of Police in April 2020. She arrived amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but despite this, she was able to strengthen partnerships with the community and with residents, whether these partnerships were via Zoom or in a socially distanced setting.

“Thank you, Chief Adams, for your many contributions and your dedication to making the City of Rancho Cordova a great place to live, work, learn and play,” said City Manager Cyrus Abhar. “We wish you every happiness as you head into retirement.”

Adams started her career with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office in 1994. She has served in a variety of roles and held several leadership positions, including Commander of the Sheriff’s Impact Division and Hi-Tech Crimes Bureau Commander.

Through her career, Adams has developed a strong background in Community-Oriented and Intelligence-led Policing, as well as patrol operations, Internet Crimes Against Children, cybercrime, and cyber intrusion, experience she brought to Rancho Cordova.

“Because of the forward-thinking support of the community, City Council and local businesses, the City of Rancho Cordova is a blueprint to be emulated,” said Chief Adams. “The innovative collaboration of city and police services has been a pleasure to serve under. The men and women of RCPD bravely face each day and will continue to flourish under the guidance of the City Council, City Manager, staff and our partnerships with the community. After 27 years of service, I begin my next chapter, but feel honored to have completed my tenure with the City of Rancho Cordova.”

In the coming weeks, the city will interview new candidates for the position of Chief of Police and announce a new Chief of Police.

“Chief Adams’ passion, collaboration and experience will be missed, but we look forward to partnering with a new Chief of Police on innovative and proactive policing programs in our safe community.”

Stay tuned to the city’s social media channels and e-newsletter for upcoming announcements.
