RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) – Cordova High celebrated Homecoming 2021 last week with festivities culminating on Friday, October 1. The long-awaited rally drew the involvement of an amazing crowd of students, alumni, and administrative team all collaborating for the big night of competition, crowning and music.
Josh Creeger, CHS Activities Director said, “Homecoming 2021 was truly a blessing. After a rough year or so with the pandemic, the students came out in full force with renewed excitement and school spirit!”
This year’s winning float was the Junior Class with its “Class of the Undead 2023” which they put together along with some 100 kids from the other classes during the float-building week. “The band, the cheer team, the dance team all performed and were amazing, and the student government kids created skits based on their class themes,” stated Creeger.
Cordova High School royalty were announced for Homecoming 2021 night:
Freshmen"'Daniel Swick and Kyra Pacheco; Sophomores"'Diego Cisneros and Nairobi Sandoval Aguirre; Juniors"'Ayden Gregory and J’nia Gomez; Senior King and Queen"'Miguel de Dios and Noelle Gifford
Of course, the big night wouldn’t be Homecoming Night without the Cordova High Lancer Varsity Football game.
Cordova Parks and Recreation Chairperson Rick Sloan commented, “The Cordova Lancers Football team played hard the entire game and were in the lead going into the fourth quarter.” Unfortunately, due to some missing players and injuries, the team ran out of steam as many played both defense and offense throughout the game for a final score of Natomas 35, Cordova 22.
Sloan stated, “The Big Red put together three successful touchdown drives. Marcos Medina-Haro caught two touchdown passes and the third touchdown pass was a long bomb to Dylan Gray #1 in the end zone.” Another great play was the successful “PAT kicked by Dominic Stephens #23 and a two-point conversion run by Robert Salcedo #11.”
Big Red will be playing their next game on October 15th against Johnson. Go Big Red!
