RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The City of Rancho Cordova is proud to announce the appointment of Brandon M. Luke as its new Rancho Cordova Chief of Police.

Luke, a Sheriff’s Captain with 28 years of law enforcement experience with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies, fills the role vacated by former Chief of Police Kate Adams, who retired in September 2021.

“The City of Rancho Cordova is pleased to welcome Brandon Luke as our new Chief of Police,” said City Manager Cyrus Abhar. “His experience building relationships with the community, commitment to youth, and extensive law enforcement background make him an excellent choice to serve our community.”

In addition to serving as Rancho Cordova’s Chief of Police, Luke will also serve as Commander of the Sheriff’s Office East Division out of the Kilgore Police Station.

Luke began his career in law enforcement as a State Trooper with the Nevada Highway Patrol and as a police officer with UC Davis before joining the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office in 1999. He has served in a variety of roles, including Deputy Sheriff, Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Officer, Gang Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant over School Resource Officer Program, and Captain. He has held key leadership positions, including Assistant Commander of the Sheriff’s Impact Division and Commander of the Main Jail. Luke graduated from California State University, Fresno with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology and has completed the Los Angeles Police Department’s Leadership program.

“Together, through effective communication, commitment and a collaborative spirit, we can develop long-lasting relationships that serve as a foundation for ensuring a safe community for all citizens,” said Chief Luke.

Throughout his law enforcement career, Luke developed a strong background as an investigator and a mentor. A touchstone in all his efforts is accountability, respect and innovation in response to community needs. Luke’s ability to foster relationships has assisted him in networking with numerous law enforcement agencies and community groups. Luke has been committed to working with non-profit organizations oriented towards mentoring youth and individuals interested in the field of law enforcement.

He was awarded the Medal of Valor from the Nevada Highway Patrol and a Life Saving Medal from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, as well as various commendations.

The city will host opportunities in the near future for the community to meet Chief Luke. Sign up to receive regular updates at CityofRanchoCordova.org/ENews and follow the city and Rancho Cordova Police Department on social media.
