Cordova Community Christmas Tree Livens up Residents
RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The holiday season was kicked off in Rancho Cordova on Sunday, November 28, with the 22nd annual Cordova Community Christmas Tree Lighting. Close to a thousand residents gathered at Village Green Park to rejoice and participate in the many fun-filled activities hosted by the Cordova Community Council.
Family-oriented Christmas Tree Lighting festivities included train and wagon rides, City-provided “snowing”, and many great opportunities for children to meet and get photographed with Santa Claus. Civic and nonprofit organizations made good use of the evening by setting up booths which offered services and handed out goodies such as candy canes and hot apple cider.
The 2021 tree-lighting celebration was colored by many vivid holiday characters in costumes featured at the event. Christmas music engulfed the park with the sounds of the “Strolling Carolers,” dressed in period attire from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, and live performances by characters from Disney’s Frozen among others. A superb live nativity scene of the long-ago starry night in Bethlehem was featured to lend a peaceful background for the upcoming holiday celebrations.
A colorful light show was prepared this year for the crowd to enjoy in the center of Village Green Park. Garrett Gatewood, Rancho Cordova City Mayor, set off the fireworks display, and Rod Borba, Rancho Cordovan of the Year, had the honor of lighting the Christmas Tree.
The Cordova Community Christmas Tree is set to remain lit throughout the holiday season until January 1st, 2022.
