RANCHO CORDOVA (MPG) - As the weather begins to warm, the spring sports seasons have begun with the Cordova High School softball team ready to build off a strong 2021 season.

The Lancers went 14-3 overall and 7-0 in Greater Sacramento League play last season with contributions from numerous returning players that are leading the 2022 squad.

As of press time, Cordova is 2-2 with wins over Capital Christian (5-1) and Rosemont (16-0). The losses have come to Oak Ridge (8-0) and Vista del Lago (8-5).

Leiana Hobart has stood out as a hitter and pitcher. After hitting .560 as a junior, Hobart has gone 7-for-13 with a home run and six runs scored. The junior has also notched both Lancers’ wins, pitching a team-high 12 innings.

Seniors Kelissa Lee and Diane Salinas as well as junior Mariah Hopkins are tied for the team-high in RBI with four. Salinas has also pitched in two games.

Following games this week against Del Campo (1-1-1) and at Ponderosa (3-0-1), Cordova will play at Galt (1-3) on March 18. All three games start at 3:30 P.M.

The Lancers wrap up March against McClatchy (0-0) on the 23rd and kick off April against Monterey Trail (2-1) on the 5th. Both games are at home and start at 4 P.M.

Cordova is scheduled to begin league play on April 6 against Natomas (1-3). Over the past two completed seasons (2019 and ‘21), the Lancers have gone a combined 16-1 in league games.

The quest for three consecutive league championships is underway.
