RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Join us in congratulating Rancho Cordova Police Department (RCPD) Officer Ron Sutter on his retirement! Officer Sutter is retiring from a 28-year law enforcement career with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Officer Sutter came from a military family. He was born in Sacramento, his dad was in the U.S. Air Force assigned to Mather Air Force Base, and his family’s first house was in Rosemont. Law enforcement was the closest career to the military that didn’t require him to move around, and he learned about the career in high school from a former California Highway Patrol officer. These experiences influenced Officer Sutter to study criminal justice and attend the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Academy.
Officer Sutter has served in various roles throughout his career, including the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center, Main Jail, and every patrol division in the department. In 2017, Officer Sutter aspired to work with the community as a motor officer and took a 160-hour training program at the Sacramento Regional Drivers Training Facility’s Basic Police Motor School.
In 2018, Officer Sutter joined RCPD’s Traffic Unit as a motor officer. The Traffic Unit focuses on continuing to improve traffic safety in Rancho Cordova in partnership with our community.
In addition, Officer Sutter has been teaching motor school for the last three years, and he plans to return as a contract instructor during his retirement. Officer Sutter is proud to have served the community he grew up in.
“Although most people don’t realize the impact bad driving behavior has on the community, it is very significant to public safety,” said Officer Sutter. “I’ve enjoyed serving the Rancho Cordova community on the RCPD Traffic Unit.”
We thank Officer Sutter for his service to our community and wish him all the best in his next chapter!
