RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - A record 152 attendees gathered for the first luncheon of the year hosted by the Cordova Community Council and the Rancho Cordova Area Chamber of Commerce on Jan. 24. The event, which marks the 65th anniversary of the Cordova Community Council, featured Mayor Siri Pulipati as the keynote speaker.

“This luncheon is a cherished tradition in our city, and since the incorporation of Rancho Cordova in 2003, the mayor has been the speaker of our first luncheon of the year,” said Shelly Blanchard, executive director of the Cordova Community Council.

The event highlighted Pulipati’s significant contributions to the city and her unique background.

“Mayor Pulipati grew up in India, making her the first foreign-born mayor of Rancho Cordova,” Blanchard said in her introduction. “She’s the first woman of color and the first Indian American to serve on the City Council. With a background in engineering, she’s also worked as a realtor, taught at Sacramento State, and currently works for a Fortune 500 company in the semiconductor industry. Her leadership extends beyond City Hall, serving on numerous boards representing Rancho Cordova.”

During her address, Pulipati shared her vision for 2025, emphasizing technology, innovation, and sustainability as key themes for the city’s future.

“We have an amazing council this year, and we’re looking forward to a fantastic 2025,” said Pulipati. “One of the mantras my father taught me is ‘don’t let the perception of others become your reality.’ Those words continue to guide me in every challenge and decision, shaping who I am today.”

Pulipati also discussed her journey to public office, highlighting how her passion for community involvement led her to public service.

“When I was active in the community, it brought me joy. Over time, that passion turned into a calling. I believe in Rancho Cordova, in the potential of our city, and I believe I can make a difference,” said Pulipati.

As for her priorities this year, Pulipati outlined several initiatives focused on creating a smarter, more connected, and sustainable city.

She highlighted the city’s commitment to advancing infrastructure through green energy initiatives, smart technology integration, and sustainable urban planning. Key projects, such as stormwater management programs and the Zinfandel pedestrian overcrossing, are part of these efforts to position Rancho Cordova as a forward-thinking, eco-friendly community.

Pulipati also stressed the importance of strengthening neighborhood connections. She emphasized how vital community engagement is to the city’s growth and success, noting that Rancho Cordova’s programs foster cultural exchange and increase access to resources.

In terms of economic development, Pulipati reflected on the city’s growing reputation as a regional hub for technology. With 3,500 businesses and more than 65,000 employees, Rancho Cordova continues to attract new industries while supporting local entrepreneurs. The newly finalized economic development strategic plan, she said, will help retain and grow businesses by ensuring that the workforce is prepared for the future.

Pulipati also emphasized the importance of investing in youth and education, an area especially important to her. The Rancho Cordova Youth Center is one example of how the city is prioritizing youth development, offering educational resources and afterschool programs designed to equip children for success.

On the public safety front, Pulipati introduced a new real-time information center, which aims to enhance the ability of the Rancho Cordova Police Department to respond to emerging threats and keep the community safe.

“Crime is down,” said Pulipati. “We have seen significant decreases in many fronts with a 10% reduction in robberies, 5% reduction in aggravated assault, 35% reduction in burglaries and 6% reduction in property crimes.”

Pulipati introduced a new initiative for 2025: the “Mayor Monthly Bingo Card,” a fun way for residents to explore the city and earn city swag. The program begins on Jan. 31 and will be available on the city’s website and social media channels.

Closing her remarks, Pulipati shared a message of positivity: “In a world where you can be anything, be kind. I am especially proud to represent Rancho Cordova, a city with heart and a community that cares.”
