Mitchell Marauders Grapple to Gold

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The Mitchell Middle School wrestling season started in November and the team has shown steady improvement posting impressive wins over Mills and Folsom middle schools in head-to-head dual matches in January.
Returning wrestlers include David Holtz (85), Erica Banks (108) (2024 State Champ), Damean Guido-Lee (95), Harmony Navarette-Williams (103), Asher Jiang (103), Ethan Dihn (122), Conner Freemyer (122) and Jayden McCullar (147).
Wrestlers joining the team this season include Bilal Pordili (89), Kian Jiang (95), Aubrey Vasquez-Paz (112), Troy Alvarez (122), Levi Gustafson (170) and Clayton Gustafson (205).
The Marauder wrestling team has taken on competitors from throughout the greater Sacramento area at local tournaments hosted at Springview Middle School, Barrett Middle School, Bella Vista High School and most recently at Ponderosa High School.

At the Bella Vista tournament, the Marauder girls came away with a perfect record and ranked No. 1 with the best winning average and four of 10 fastest pins of the day. Leading the way with first-place finishes was Erica Banks and Jayden McCullar. For the boys, David Holtz and Conner Freemyer won first-place medals in their respective divisions and Clayton Gustafson won third-place.
At the Ponderosa tournament, the Marauder girls (Banks, McCullar and Aubrey Vasquez-Paz ) continued their winning ways out-maneuvering their opponents to again capture first-place honors in their weight divisions. Holtz and Gustafson captured third-place finishes.
