RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) – The second annual Spring Service Day is set for Saturday, May 17 and the city is calling on the community to come together in celebration of volunteerism and civic engagement.

The event, which encourages residents to give back to their community, is a day of service that aims to ignite passion for volunteering in Rancho Cordova.

“There’s so many great projects going on, it really makes your heart swell with pride at what the community is capable of when it comes together,” said Councilmember David Sander, Ph.D. at last year’s event.

The causes supported span a variety of areas, including animals, arts and culture, basic needs, community, crisis response, education, the environment and family.

Spring Service Day is organized by Rancho Cordova in Action, a group of community leaders committed to fostering civic engagement throughout the year. The group is inviting residents to volunteer, participate and make a positive impact in the community.

“We have people from all walks of life coming together with one shared goal: to spread joy and make new friends along the way,” said Mayor Siri Pulipati during the 2024 Spring Service Day.

Those interested in participating can sign up to volunteer or donate through the event’s website. Volunteers can visit cityofranchocordova.galaxydigital.com/agency/detail/SpringServiceDay25/?agency_id=157705 to “become a fan” of the event and receive notifications when volunteer opportunities open. Those without an account will be prompted to create one.

“We get a chance to really engage with new residents that we would have never been able to meet and now everybody can be service-minded,” said City of Rancho Cordova community engagement manager Lorianne Carl at last year’s event.

Local businesses are also stepping up to sponsor the event. This year’s title sponsor is Atlas Disposal, which has been serving the Rancho Cordova community for more than 26 years.

“Atlas Disposal is proud to be a member of the Rancho Cordova community; we have been serving the community for the past 26 years. Our employees work here, live here, play here. Their children go to school here, so we feel a real sense of pride in our community,” said Atlas Disposal Vice-President Robb Seipp during the 2024 event.
