Lady Lancers Recognized at Awards Banquet

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - The Cordova Lady Lancers recently honored the players within their softball program during their annual end-of-season awards banquet, which was held at Cordova High School on May 18.

Players, coaches, family and friends gathered to recognize the efforts of the young athletes this spring during a much-deserved celebration dinner, with head coach Kim Bradley electing to acknowledge the team as a whole rather than hand out individual awards. That move has traditionally been the way Bradley operated after each season, which has helped foster a very tight-knit group that holds a team-first approach. For Bradley, holding the event after the end of every season is a meaningful way to show appreciation to the players for their efforts.

“It means everything,” Bradley said. “It shows their commitment, dedication and their hard work.”

In addition to celebrating the team altogether, it was revealed that the Lady Lancers have two players this spring whose standout play has earned them All-Metro League honors, including senior shortstop Briel Brookins along with junior third baseman Becca Lee.

Brookins led the Lady Lancers this spring in home runs (2) and ranked within the top three in hits (16), runs (15), slugging percentage (.622) and triples (2) this season. Lee meanwhile led the team in slugging percentage (.683), triples (3) and runs batted in (12). For their coach, having players recognized as some of the best in the Metro League is a great way to shine light on the caliber of athletes who play at Cordova.

“It goes into what I’ve always said about our players at Cordova,” Bradley said. “We have some talent here, and I think sometimes it gets overlooked maybe because of our win-loss record. But we have some real good athletes there and they deserve the recognition like any other player in the area.”

When asked about what Brookins and Lee meant to the program this year, Bradley didn’t mince words.

“They were the glue,” she said. “They were vocal, they were the leaders and they were the ones who led with hard work.”

Hats off to the entire Lady Lancers program for finishing another spring season!
