RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - In 2024, more than 5-million animals entered the shelter system in the United States, underscoring the need to control pet overpopulation.
During Spay and Neuter Awareness Month, the city is reminding Rancho Cordovan pet owners how they can champion this month with free services.

With support from the city’s Community Enhancement & Investment Fund, Whisker Warriors (rcwhiskerwarriors.com) offers vouchers for free spay and neuter services for pets of Rancho Cordova residents. There are a limited number of appointments for spay and neuter services each month and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
You can also oftentimes find the Whisker Warriors team in the community helping stray animals or at community events distributing free cat and dog treats.

The city also received a grant from U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine to launch its Animal Services Assistance Program. Animal Services Assistance Program provides financial assistance to Rancho Cordovan pet owners during a time of need to help with veterinary bills, repair broken fences, address behavior issues and more.
Since being awarded the grant, the Animal Services Assistance Program has been supported by other organizations and private donors.

“The city is dedicated to fostering responsible and compassionate pet ownership in our community. Building strong relationships with our community partners, such as Whisker Warriors and residents, is at the heart of that mission. Through education, support and assistance when needed, we can create a healthier and more loving environment for pets and their families,” said Animal Services Officer April Stevenson.
